Pope Benedict XVI
Question from Mary on 4/19/2005:

Is Pope Benedict XVI a member of the Benedictine order? Will you have information when he says why he's chosen that name?

Answered on 5/4/2005:

No, the pope was a diocesan priest of Munich/Freising. Obviously, he is now no longer "incardinated" in that dicoese, but is "incardinated" in the diocese of Rome. Whether he remained technically a priest of Munich during his years as Prefect of the CDF I don't know.

He chose his name both in recognition of St. Benedict and Pope Benedict XV.
