Man in Black
Question from James B on 4/19/2005:

Dear EWTN,

Thanks for all of the coverage on the happenings in Rome. I have enjoyed (if you can say that) the coverage that you have been providing these last days. I have just one question however. All of the Cardinals are in crimson, except for one. This gentleman is in black (including a black hat). Maybe I have missed something. Who is he and is he a candidate for the Papacy?

Thanks and God Bless

Answered on 4/26/2005:

He was a Patriarch of an Eastern Catholic Church, and has the rank of Cardinal. He could have been elected, but as we now know, was not.
