Cardinal Eusebio Oscar Scheid, S.C.I., was born on December 8, 1932, in Brazil. He joined the Congregation of Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and studied at that order's seminary in Corupa, Brazil He was ordained a priest in 1960. He also studied in Rome, receiving a doctorate in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University. Specializing in Christology, he has taught theology at Christ the King Seminary, and various other seminaries. In 1981, he became director of the Faculty of Theology in Taubate, Brazil. On October 21, 2003, he was created a cardinal priest, and assigned the titular church of Sts. Boniface and Alexis. He was Archbishop of Sao Sebastiao do Rio de Janeiro until 27 February 2009 and was Bishop of Brazil for the Faithful of Eastern Rites from 3 October 2001 until 28 July 2010.
