Cardinal Roger M. Mahoney was born in Hollywood, California, on February 27, 1936. He was ordained a priest of the Fresno diocese on May 1, 1962. On March 19, 1975, he was ordained titular bishop of Tamascani and auxiliary bishop of Fresno. He was appointed bishop of Stockton on February 15, 1980, and installed on April 25 of that year. On July 16, 1985, he was appointed Archbishop of Los Angeles, and installed on September 5. He was created a cardinal on June 28, 1991. His titular church is the Four Crowned Saints. He retired as Archbishop of Los Angeles on 1 March 2011.
