Saint Lanterns
The carved-out symbols of saint lanterns let light shine through as a reminder that the saints fulfilled Christ's instruction, "Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven." 
 
Use larger pumpkin than shown

Large pumpkin Sharp knife Spoon and/or scraper Tracing paper Pencil Tape Push pin Candle in suitable holder

1. Cut out top of pumpkin. (Cut off top's strings and set it aside.)
2. Clean out by removing stringy pulp and seeds.
3. On the tracing paper, draw the outline of a simple, broad saint's symbol.
4. Tape pattern to pumpkin and use a push pin to mark the design along its lines.
5. Remove pattern and carve.
6. Place candle inside.
7. In the pumpkin lid, carve a small hole as a chimney.
8. Carry pumpkin to its place.
9. Light candle.
10. Replace lid.
11. Don’t leave candle burning unattended.
